Mapping Migrant Camps
Where do migrants live once they get to Europe? This question intrigued me, so I made an interactive map that shows the locations of the major refugee camps in Europe.
My reason for pursuing this particular project was to raise awareness of the migrant population in Europe. It is a popular fallacy that once refugees enter the European Union, they are welcomed with European hospitality and are provided with a safe and secure environment. Although this is true in some countries and regions, in other EU member states refugees are not so lucky.
My hopes are that the viewers, through this project, would have the opportunity to discover what it truly means to be a refugee inside Europe.
The dots on the map mark the major refugee camps in Europe. Green indicates a safe environment for refugees, yellow means a risky environment, and red represents a dangerous environment for refugees, based on my research into the conditions reported there.
